During the warmer months, our skin can take a pretty hefty beating from the increased sun exposure. These five snacks will help keep your skin looking and feeling radiant whether you are on the beach, in the mountains, or on the road this summer.

1. DIY Trail Mix

Throw together an ounce of dark chocolate, a handful of walnuts, and about ¼ cup of sunflower seeds for a trail mix blend that’s rich in antioxidants, omega-3s, and Vitamin E, which all help to fight off inflammation. This helps stop acne at its cause and also improves the blood circulation that promotes your healthy skin cell growth.

2. Fruit!

Fresh fruit in the summer is a snack that is hard to beat. Cut up a kiwi and one cup of cantaloupe for a sweet combination rich in Vitamin C and beta-carotene, which both help keep your skin hydrated, feeling soft, and wrinkle-free (think about combatting the crows feet reading in the sun will give you).

3. Munch on some veggies.

Follow a recipe like this one for kale chips. Kale is a better source of Vitamin C than other fruits typically known for their C content like oranges and grapefruits. Munching on kale chips could help reduce inflammation and promote the flow of oxygen in the body, which helps keep skin glowing and acne free. Chips that won’t make you break out? Genius.

4. One word: HUMMUS.

Slice up an assortment of yellow and green peppers to dip into hummus for a snack that is sure to satisfy your tastebuds and your tan. Peppers are known for their high levels of Vitamin C, and the Vitamin B and folate found in chickpeas (the main ingredient in hummus) help repair skin damage caused by UV rays.

5. One last egg-cellent choice.

This last snack might get you a few weird looks if you are hanging out on the beach, but if you can brave the stares, your skin will thank you. Eggs are a fantastic source of protein— specifically collagen and elastin– that keeps skin strong and taute. Eggs are low in fat and packed with amino acids that help skin cell growth. Follow these easy directions for hard boiled eggs to make sure your eggs are cooked eggcellently.
