Every now and then, I look in the mirror and hate what I see. I have these bad body image days that can just make me feel like Debbie Downer. Trust me, I’m a natural when it comes to picking out my flaws — not something to be proud of, but society can lead some of us to believe that anything and everything can be a “flaw.”
I know how it feels to be unhappy with your appearance. And I know how it feels to walk down the street in a brand new outfit feeling fierce just like Beyonce.
Negative body image is something that many girls (and guys, too) struggle with at some point in time. In this struggle, though, it’s important to take a look at who you are as a person (because you’re awesome!), and equally important to look at the positive aspects of your body. Your body can do so much that you simply might take for granted.
How could I hate a body that’s so strong?
Instead of thinking about what you don’t like about your body, think about all of the things that you love about your body, and all of the things it can do.
First, I like to think about the simple things. I am happy that I am able to walk, run, and sprint.
The list of things that I love about what my body can do could go on forever, and that is what we have to remind ourselves of constantly when we are in a moment of self-doubt.
All of these things bring me enjoyment, and it makes me realize that my body is capable of so much. It’s not always easy to remember these things, but these are things that I need to remember most when I’m having a not-so-fabulous body image day. I want to remind myself of what my body can do instead of what it looks like.
Realizing what you are capable of will help your confidence even on those off-days. Even though it might seem unnatural at first, I know you can do it!
